How to Make Powerful Protein Shake Without Protein Powder

You are probably well aware of how to make a protein shake with powder. It’s simply just a case of throwing in a scoop of flavored powder into water or milk, giving it a good shake and downing it before or after your workout.

The problem is with powder-based protein shakes is they can lack flavor, nutrients, vitamins and minerals and sometimes just aren’t very satisfying!

The good news is that you can make a protein shake yourself without the use of any powders and they can be delicious, satisfying and pack a hard nutritional punch!

Tofu is an excellent protein source! As well as being vegetarian / vegan friendly it’s extremely versatile and will soak up flavors perfectly making it ideal for a whole host of protein shake recipes.

So what do you need for this tasty shake?

  • ½ cup of silken tofu
  • 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 whole banana
  • 1-teaspoon of peanut butter
  • A few vanilla flavor drops

Throw all the ingredients into the blender and mix up well. Serve over some crushed ice and enjoy this protein packed, decadent shake!

Brilliant bean protein shake!

Certain beans are full of protein and make for an excellent choice for nutrients, vitamins and of course protein.

Who’d of thought you can make a protein shake with something that’s probably been sat in your cupboard. For this recipe you will need to toss into your blender:

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • ½ cup of tinned black beans (as these are already cooked)
  • 1-tablespoon of hemp seeds
  • 1-tablespoon of chia seeds
  • 1 whole banana
  • 1-tablespoon organic cocoa powder

Don’t worry, black beans really don’t taste of anything; they are a fantastic way of getting a dose of protein. This shake tastes delicious and is super easy to make repeatedly.

 

Raspberry almond shake

If you are in the mood for something a little tangy and fruity then this raspberry almond shake is a wonderful alternative to a powder based shake! It’s refreshing, tasty and a little bit naughty too!

Perfect for increasing your daily protein intake or after a tough workout here’s what you will need to throw into your blender:

  • 3 ounces plain Greek yogurt
  • ½ cup frozen raspberries
  • 1-tablespoon of golden syrup
  • 1-tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1-tablespoon hemp hearts
  • 1/8 teaspoon almond extract
  • ½ cup unsweetened cashew nut milk

Blend the mixture well until it’s nice and smooth. Serve up in your favorite glass with a straw and enjoy!

 

Berry & oats shakes

Oats make for the perfect pre and post workout fuel so blending them into a delicious homemade protein shake makes perfect sense!

This berry themed protein shake will deliver you a healthy shot of protein and is bursting in juicy goodness!

Here’s what you need to make it:

  • ½ cup frozen blueberries
  • ¼ cup frozen raspberries
  • 5 frozen strawberries
  • ¼ cup cannellini beans, drained and rinsed
  • 3 ounces plain Greek yogurt
  • 2-tablespoons of rolled oats
  • 1-teaspoon of honey
  • 1 cup unsweetened cashew milk

This protein shake perfectly hits the spot! It’s fulfilling, full of protein and vitamins; it’s zingy, and super tasty!

The beauty of making your own protein shakes is that you probably have all the ingredients sat in your cupboard already!
